Am Tag zuvor kommen wir nachmittags im Camp Meno a Kwena an, das sich südlich von Maun am Ufer des Boteti Flusses befindet. Das Camp liegt etwa 50 Meter oberhalb des Flussbetts und verfügt über zwei künstliche Wasserstellen im Flussbett. Da der Boteti Fluss nur sehr selten bis zu diesem Punkt gelangt, kann man hier insbesondere große Zebraherden beobachten. Diese kommen zur Zeit der Zebramigration zu Tausenden zum Boteti und werden durch den Veternärzaun dort gestoppt. Die Wasserstelle kann man entweder gemütlich direkt vom Camp aus beobachten oder aber vom Versteck kurz oberhalb der Wasserstelle. (more…)

The day before we arrive in the afternoon in the camp Meno a Kwena which is located south from Maun at the Boteti river. The camp is located about 50 meters above the river bed. It operates two artificial water holes within the river bed. Since the water of the Boteti rarely arrives at Meno a Kwena, the water holes attract quite a lot zebras which reach during the dry season the Boteti and are getting stuck at the veterinary fence. Around 20.000 to 25.000 zebras are reaching this area. (more…)

For the last breakfast Enoch serves scrambled eggs with bacon, tomatoes, beans and saucages. After that fantastic breakfast we burn ourselves on to the flash card of my camera and we leave towards Maun. The Safari has found its end.

Während der Nacht hören wir ständig die Elefanten. Auch macht sich wieder eine Hyäne in der Campküche zu schaffen. Wir haben unser Frühstück noch nicht richtig begonnen, da macht uns Sammie auf die Impala Rufe, direkt in der Nähe unseres Camps, aufmerksam. Er scheucht uns regelrecht auf das Auto und sagt, dass wir sofort aufbrechen müssen, da er irgendein Raubtier im Busch vermutet. (more…)

The whole night we hear elephants near our in the camp. Further to that, a hyena is rummaging our camp kitchen. Before we even could finish our breakfast Sammie is pointing out the impala calls near to our camp. He pushes us into the car and is heading off immediately towards were he heard the impalas. He suspects a predator somewhere in this area.  And indeed after 2 minutes drive Renates spots a leopard on a small hill.

Heute unternehmen wir eine Bootsfahrt auf dem Kakanaka River. Auf dem Weg sehen wir wieder einen Leoparden, diesmal allerdings hoch in einem Baum sitzend, von Ästen und Blättern verdeckt. (more…)

Today we head out for a boat trip on the Kakanaka river. On our way we spot again a leopard.However, this time he
is sitting well camouflaged by leafs and twigs high in the tree. With our boat we drive through reeds, ferns and papyrus. Wherever we look we spot birds, seaeagles, kingfishers, ibis, storks and a lot of other birds with names I cannot remember. (more…)

Our time at the Khwai river flies. After three days we head towards our last camp of our safari, Moremi nationalpark. I hope that we will spot leopards or cheetahs in Moremi. So far we just were able to see their tracks.

Unsere Zeit am Khwai River vergeht wie im Flug. Nach drei Tagen fahren wir unser letztes Camp im Moremi Park an. Was Tiersichtungen betrifft, hoffe ich in Moremi, die zu den Spuren gehörigen Leoparden oder Geparden noch einmal zu Gesicht zu bekommen. (more…)

Our Campsite at the Khwai river is located at a beautiful spot. The next three days are rather relaxed. After our morning game drive we have a break over noon in which we can relax, before we leave for our afternoon drive. The area at the Khwai river is not an official national park. Therefore, we can also conduct night drives. However, except the lions from the first night we only get a brief glimpse of three hyenas. (more…)
